Dr. Matthew Paonessa was born and raised in Mamaroneck, New York and attended Mamaroneck High School. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from State University of New York College at Cortland and earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine, where he was inducted into the OKU Honor Society, which recognizes the top 10% of all dental students. He then went on to earn his Medical degree from Stony Brook School of Medicine. He completed his 6 year Oral & Maxillofacial surgery training at Northshore-LIJ which included a 1-year general surgery internship at Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was honored with intern resident of the year. During his residency, Dr. Paonessa was trained in the full scope of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery from the insertion of dental implants to facial reconstruction.
Dr. Paonessa is a diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and is on the attending staff at New York/Presbyterian Hospital. Dr. Paonessa has a particular interest and experience in orthognathic, cleft palate, implant and dentoalveolar surgery.
Dr. Paonessa lives locally with his wife Tara, daughter Reese, and son Luca.
